MALIHEH AFNAN: TRACES, PFACES, PLACES (2009)

Edited and with an introduction by Rose Issa
Foreword by John Berger

Published to accompany a major exhibition at the Martin Gropius Bau Museum in Berlin (‘Taswir: Pictorial Mappings of Modernity & Islam’, 4 November 2009–18 January 2010), this publication spans the fifty-year career of Maliheh Afnan – one of the most important contemporary artists from the Middle East. Afnan was born in Palestine to Persian parents and has lived and worked in Lebanon, Kuwait, Washington DC, Paris and London. Her themes of displacement and exile are rendered in a spare, discreet style that has earned Afnan an international following.
